WHY HAVE A DOULA?

The word doula is a Greek word meaning women’s servant. Women have been serving others in childbirth for many centuries and have proven that support has a positive impact on the labor process.

I am a professional, trained in childbirth, who will provide emotional, physical, and educational support to you during the weeks leading up to labor, during your labor and delivery, and during those first couple of weeks of your postpartum recovery. I strive to empower you to connect with and achieve your birth goals.

Numerous studies have documented the benefits of having a doula present during labor. With the support of a doula, you are less likely to have pain relief medications administered and less likely to have a cesarean birth. Many have also reported having a more positive childbirth experience.

My role as your doula is never to take the place of your partner in labor, but rather to complement and enhance their experience as well.

By having a doula as a part of your birth team, your partner is free to also enjoy the experience without the added pressure of trying to remember everything they learned in childbirth class! Rather, they can focus on being there emotionally as you need them and physically as well. I like to be a Doula for you both as a team.

The presence of a doula can be beneficial no matter what type of birth you are planning. Most report needing fewer interventions when they have a doula.

Having a Doula take the time to hear your needs and preferences allows you to gain trust and comfort to go through your birthing journey with the support and focus you need.

I hope to be a part of your birth team and look forward to my role as your Doula.
